Inverted Chapel
Instructor: Lindsey Stouffer · Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, MO. Fall 2016
The Light Chapel explores the use of corrugated plastic as a building material while creating a sanctuary space in harmony with its surroundings. Sited in one of the park's few open areas, enclosed by a ring of trees, the structure forms an inverted topography which acts as both ground and canopy, mimicking its environment. The corrugated material filters sunlight and projects light patterns into the space below. At night, lights built into the ground project upward.
